Fall Things to Do in Upstate NY

School is in session and the leaves have begun to change, leaving summer 2019 behind for good. Luckily, the 518 offers plenty of activities to keep the fun alive throughout the years end! It’s time to swap out our swim suits and bomb pops for scary costumes, spooky endeavors, and spiced warm drinks and treats.

After careful consideration of the many incredible things the Capital Region has to offer, we’ve compiled some autumn ideas to add to your fall fun list:

1. Make a Fall Themed Custom Candle

Fall home décor is something of a sport in Upstate New York. Scarecrows, floral wreaths, leaf vines and wooden signs with funny sayings come out of storage and really accentuate the feel of the season. Fall home décor is never complete, however, without some seasonal candles! Bring the whole family to The Candle Collective for fall candle making and custom create your perfect fall candle from the colors that match your home décor right down to your favorite fall scent.

2. Pick Pumpkins & Apples

Whether you take the kids or go on a date, the pumpkin patch or apple orchard offers the perfect opportunity to embrace fall in Upstate NY. Grab a fresh apple cider donut and a hot cider, and then go on an adventure for the perfect pumpkin or the juiciest apples!

3. Hike a High Peak

Hiking the Adirondack high peaks is an Upstate New York badge of honor. Not only is the weather perfect for getting your heart rate up outdoors, but the view from the top is breathtaking. If a high peak isn’t your jam, there are plenty of family and beginner friendly mountains in the Lake George area that offer gorgeous views, and some even offer chalet lifts to enjoy the views from!

4. Go on a Haunted Hayride

Piling onto a hay wagon to be toted through a haunted attraction by a tractor is a bit of a local specialty. About 10 minutes from The Candle Collective is a haunted attraction that has been scaring people for almost 30 years – Double M Haunted Hayrides. Just be sure to make reservations, they have been known to draw a crowd!

5. Attend a Fall Festival

All over the area different festivals pop up with vendors, activities, food and drinks. Some are adult oriented like the Hard Cider and Doughnut Fest, while others like the Saratoga Giant Pumpkin Festival are great for the whole family. Keep an eye on your local firehouses and community centers for fun fall craft fairs, too!
